MozBackup
From Automation
The documentation will guide you thought a Firefox backup. Doing a Thunderbird backup is the exact same steps.
Choose your version of Firefox. If more than one is listed, as in “SeaMonkey/Mozilla” and “Mozilla Firefox“ Choose “Mozilla Firefox”. The versions that you have may not match the ones in the images, this is fine, the program's functionality does not depend directly on the version you are running. You may download this app if you do not currently have it from the
Files Site or directly here
- Starting up MozBackup.
- The splash page will open, click next
- You are then given an option to either Backup a Profile or Restore a Profile. Choose the option you are looking to do.
- Choose a profile, and location.
- Most instances you will only have one profile to worry about, this being the “default” profile. If more than one is listed you will have to back them up separately of each other by running MozBackup multiple times.
- The default save directory is “%homepath%/My Documents”. This can be changed to where ever it is desired, but it is advised to leave it in “My Documents” just for simplicity. The filename will be based on the application you are backing up and the date which it is done. An example of this would be “Firefox 3.0.1 (en-US) – 2009-02-23.pcv”, the pcv file type is basically a zip with a little bit more information needed by MozBackup to restore the profile correctly.
- Click next. If next is not click able make sure you have a profile selected. A pop-up will ask if you which to password protect the file, this is totally optional, and not necessary.
- Components Selection
- This screen allows you to choose what items will be backed up. Nothing on this screen needs to be adjusted as all of the available options are selected by default.
- Click Next
- Report
- The final screen tells you of any problems with the backup. There should be a list of actions taken, with “OK” at the end.
- Click Finish.
